Although much of my work involves internal documents such as grants, strategic planning documents, and other kinds of analysis, here is a selection of documents that I’ve written or edited that are public-facing.
Developmental and Substantive Editing: Reports
Hurricane Preparation and Recovery Guides for 22 Agricultural Commodities Southeast Climate Hub, US Department of Agriculture |
Over a period of one year, worked with USDA staff and with subject matter experts in each of the 22 commodities to develop a preparedness and recovery guide that is both specific to the commodity and includes general recommendations for agricultural producers in the US Southeast.
“Getting to Zero: A U.S. Climate Agenda” Center for Climate and Energy Solutions |
Performed substantive editing and copy editing.
“Strengthening Post-Hurricane Supply Chain Resilience” National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine |
Provided developmental commenting and copy editing.
“New Carbon Economy Consortium: Building Research Programs to Support 21st Century Economic Opportunity” Arizona State University and Center for Carbon Removal |
Wrote workshop summary, utilizing contributions from scientific experts, which formed the launching off point for the New Carbon Economy Consortium’s expanded, multi-disciplinary innovation plan.
“Building and Measuring Community Resilience” National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine |
Provided developmental commenting and copy editing.
“E21 Initiative Phase II Report: On Implementing a Framework for a 21st Century Electric System in Minnesota” Great Plains Institute |
Edited three white papers on performance-based compensation, integrated systems planning, and grid modernization, out of which are growing e21 pilot projects and continued stakeholder engagement.
“Underwater: Rising Seas, Chronic Floods, and the Implications for US Coastal Real Estate” Union of Concerned Scientists |
Worked with a team of policy analysts through a substantive edit and a final copyedit to create a report and fact sheets tailored to the needs of state policymakers and economic development organizations.
“A Defining Framework for Intelligent Efficiency” American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy |
This began as a developmental review to help a team of policy experts and private sector participants articulate their conceptual innovation around intelligent efficiency. Two substantive edits and one copyedit later, this report formed the foundation for a powerful organizing principle now used widely in the energy efficiency world.
“Energy-Fit Homes” Center for Energy and Environment and Neighborhood Energy Connection Download a PDF |
Somewhere between heavy substantive editing and rewriting, I helped the authors clarify their framework for assisting the real estate industry in assessing and certifying energy efficiency of homes on the market.
“Leveraging Natural Gas to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions” Center for Climate and Energy Solutions |
Before: seven articles each authored by an academic expert, exhibiting different, often hard-to-read styles. After: one report, one voice, consistent language and concepts, accessible to an interested non-expert.
“Weathering the Storm: Building Business Resilience to Climate Change” Center for Climate and Energy Solutions |
Substantive editing for a report and case studies demonstrating forward-looking, effective private sector responses to climate change.
“Charting Michigan’s Renewable Energy Future” Union of Concerned Scientists |
